Hello all!
I would like to get everyones input on what they want for privacy at the forum.
At this point I have the forum set up so guests can look at and read the posts and thread of the forum and can also reply to any threads. This was done so kits could see what we offer and decide if they wanted to join us.
With new members coming in I am not sure if this is the security everyone is looking for.
There are two things I can do to protect privacy.
1. I can have it so guests can still see all the threads but will not be able to read the posts unless they join and log into the forum.
2. Close the forum completely so the only way you can see anything is if you log in.
Therefore, if I could get members opinion here on what they would like I will comply to it, and it would go into effect one week after Catster closes, in case there are others that are looking for their friends from there.

I haven't voted in the privacy poll yet, Macy, because my experience is so limited--aside from our beloved Catster, my family really doesn't have experience with social media. I wonder if other kitties might like to weigh in with what their experience has been on different sites, so I could decide. In favor of openness, we certainly want all our dear furriends from Catster to be able to find us. Right now we are like refugees tossing about on the sea; all need to be gathered in to a safe place that is easy to find and enter. But against openness, we don't want to see anything offensive here or open ourselves up to shark attacks. What do others think?

But against openness, we don't want to see anything offensive here or open ourselves up to shark attacks. What do others think? Exactly Lily! What I find is that if you lock a forum completely, it doesn't allow others to see who other members are, but on the other hand if you DON'T lock a forum everything you post is wide open for everyone to see, which many people do not care for. Now take for example here, I believe that when you are not logged in you can only see the title and description of The Rainbow bridge, how many posts and then that's all. To read what is actually posted there requires you to be a member and to log in. It's like a happy medium, where you do have your privacy because only members that are logged in can see what is being posted but it enables guests that are not members to see what the forum is all about.

the open forum is what i like about this site . open forum allows guest to look us over and see this is not some secret club . my pet people has an opinion I HAVE LEFT ONE FORUM BECAUSE THEY LOCKED OUT GUEST IF YOU WERE NOT IN THE IN GROUP YOU COULD NOT POST . YOUR POST SEEMED TO SUDDENLY VANISH IF YOU ASK SOMEONE TO GET BACK ON TOPIC AND I WAS A LONG TIME MEMBER . IT WAS AN OCCUPATIONAL SITE AND SOME NEW PEOPLE WANTED TO CHANGE TO A CLOSED FORUM . I DON'T HAVE THAT PROBLEM HERE BECAUSE THIS IS RAN MORE LIKE OVER THE BACK FENCE DISCUSSIONS AND FUN BECAUSE OF IT .

Please don't change I like it as it is . It's more friendly this way open to our guests to see this is not an exclusive group but open to everyone .

I like option number one personally..I am on another site where the only way you can see anything is like number two, and in a sense its good in its own merit,,more safe and secure...number two keeps our stuff more safe and secure and no one can come in and steal our photos and use them else where on the net..its just a thought..as this has happened in the past on Catster with my furiend years ago.. then they put a lock on our photos if we chose to use that feature..that way if someone clicked on the photo to save it, they couldn't

locking the site may kill us as a friendly family . locking makes it look like we have something to hide .
what would we gain by locking ?
what do we lose by locking ?

We definitely don't want option 3. One thing we liked about Here Kitty when we were checking out the various pet sites is that we could go in and look at the forums and the various features and get a good feel how the site worked, who all was there and what it looked like, without having to open an account. With some of the other sites we tried to check out, you couldn't see anything unless you opened an account first.

We really like option one the very best, becuase we want to be open and welcoming, and also don't know that all of our Catster and Dogster friends would be able to make up their minds in a week, this is a very painful upheaval for so many

Over at our sister site, Pupsters/Kitsters, there are some sections you can't get into unless you are logged in. For example, if I get a notification in my email that there is a reply in a thread I've posted in, I can't see it until I log in--but that is only in certain members-only sections of Pupsters/Kitsters. The rest of the site is open. Is this site set up the same way?

It's not like I share my credit card info on here, and I don't think Laura and Dixon are sharing their PetSuppliesPlus card info, so we have no problem leaving it as is.
