Howdy - I'm new here and I'm seeking some help and advice with a problem that my outside cat has. He has been chewing on the right front paw, and in examining the paw I find the situation pictured in the photo. It looks like the claw has grown excessively or somehow become disfigured. He walks and moves OK, but from time to time he will lick and chew on this. Anyone ever encountered this? Any suggestions for treatment? Thanks!!

I did some googling and found a photo along with some information that confirmed for me that an ingrown nail is the problem. The cat isn't mine specifically - he's an outdoor cat that hangs around my house. I can pet him, but he's kind of neurotic about anything out of the ordinary and especially about quick movements - he must have been abused at some point. In any event, just getting him into a carrier is going to be problematic since he DOES NOT like to be picked up or handled. Be that as it may, I'm going to make a game effort to get him to a vet since it looks like this nail has gotten pretty severely ingrown.
Thanks for your information!

It does look ingrown. Were you able to catch the kitty and go to the vet?
