The reason why I joined this forum was because of this. My about to be 6 weeks pregnant moon faced persian cat Ophelia randomly growls. I know a lot about cats but pregnancy in cats I know so little. So I don't know if this is normal or not normal. I looked it up and found nothing. This is her very first pregnancy. This is what happens she'll just be relaxing and then she'll just out of no where make a low muffled growl. It suprised me the first time because she is an absolute sweetheart. She wasn't aggressive just a growl for like 3 seconds or less. I'll ask her what's wrong and then she'll just meow at me like nothing happened lol. Sometimes she even starts to purr afterwards. It's so strange I can't understand it. She started this at around the begging of 5 weeks. She'll growl once a day at a random time in a random position nothing is the same. The first few days she would start growl and move her stomach she scared me so bad I thought she was having early contractions. However she stopped shortly after and showed no signs of anything wrong after that. I've kept a close eye on her since then. Her stomach no longer moves as if she has some problems she just makes a slight growl and then acts afterwards as if she never did it. Today she let out a growl when I was about to feed her I'm guessing this meant hurry up this prego cat needs food human lol. Then 3 hours later she growled while relaxing on the bed. It's so strange. Does anyone have any advice or know the reason for the random growling?

I think this site has some good info: www.myhealthycat.com/cats-giving-birth-to-kittens.html I've never had a pregnant cat, but my parents did. My mom never said anything about her growling though. She did act extra sweet & rubbed against everyone while pregnant. If anyone touched her stomach area, she would give a warning meow to stay away from there. Cats do tend to act different during this time. As long as she's eating & drinking well & her potty business is normal, it's probably nothing to worry about. She's probably just uncomfortable & perhaps scared since this is a first pregnancy. She may be growling when she feels the kittens moving a certain way. Since you say it's such a short growl, I wouldn't worry too much, but I would ask the vet what he thinks just to be on the safe side.

Like others say its best to bring her to the Vets, just to get her checked out, lets hope she will be fine.
Please let us know how she's doing..

You could try talking to your cat. Our cats communicate differently with us than with other animals. They use lots of noises, sounds plus body language to communicate. Take the most common sound "meow" for instance. Have you ever noticed how the tone of "meow" changes when they express different states like hunger, anger, curiosity and happiness? We know from research that cats have a language of their own. In fact, the meows you hear could be one of 20 different sounds they're making, all with slightly different inflections and behavioral responses. Yes, meow means something. What does it mean, you ask? Well, context matters hugely. Is it a mean meow, or a friendly one? What about the cat's body action? Is he facing towards you, or away? Is the tail curled or lying flat against the floor? Getting the tone and body language right is critical. The truth is you and I could understand what our cats are trying to say if we only listened and interpreted. And both are quite easy to do. You know, not that long ago, I came across a personal feedback about a cat language book, and it seemed like the person had great success from the book so I gave it a shot. I couldn't have been more thrilled about the results as I'm now able to effectively communicate with my cat, and she's has become a lot more affectionate towards me! You can read it here yourself if you're interested.
