We got Cinnamon as a playmate for mittens and it was rough at first( lots if hissing and growling) but it worked great in the end. they would play together and no longer woke us up in the morning. however, we just lost Cinnamon last week to FIP. we didn't have her long at all, got her at the end of December. however now that she is gone I can tell she misses her. they never bonded to the point where they would sleep together or groom one another but were playmates. lately she seems bored. she constantly wants to play and we try to giver her as much attention as we can but its not always easy and she is very high energy. plus playing fetch with mom and dad is not quite the same as hide and seek with Cinnamon or wrestling. we have been talking about getting another kitty eventually, but it can take some time to find the right cat and the vet recommended we wait about 2 month. what do you guys suggest?

First mittens i am so sorry to hear that you lost cinnamon, I was following your story on catster and was hoping things would turn out better.
Two of the things I used for Sonny was an automatic laser toy, you can set the timer and it will shoot a laser on the floor that mittens can chase. Sonny loves it and still will use it, since Macy is not a big play cat.
Maybe someone else will have more ideas for you as they come on.
Another thing to possibly help with the hide and seek is hiding treats or getting a toy that you can hide treats in to make him work for them.

I am so very sorry you lost Cinnamon, so soon after getting her. (((((((BIG )))))) 08 Before you get another kitten or cat for Mittens, you need to figure out, what happened with Cinnamon. Where did you get her from? Who told you she had FIP? The only true way, to know if a kitty had FIP, is if you did an autopsy. What symptoms did she have? What did the vet tell you? What tests were done? FIP is contagous, its spread thru saliva, sharing food/water bowls, sharing cat boxes, sharing beds, blankets, etc. The reason your vet told you to wait 2 months, which is 8 weeks, is because, that is the ballpark time, it takes for the virus to disappear, per say, from the environment, and you have to disinfect, as in, wash, all the bowls, bedding, beds, blankets, cat box, the 2 kitties shared. He also wants to make sure, Mittens doesn't come down with it, and possibly spread it to the new kitty, which, he should have told you all this, bothers me that he didn't. It could also be a variation of the virus, or "a" virus, same thing, same results. I would absolutly wait, before getting another kitty. How old is Mittens, its more prone to kittens, or elderly kitties, that would have a weakened immune system, the same as with young children and elderly people. Here is some information on FIP. www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=1+2134&aid=212Did you quarentine Mittens from Cinnamon, when you first got her? Its always a good idea to seperate new kitties coming into the household, until you can get them to a vet, and get the FIP test, which, that can register a false positve too. This too, keeps the resident kitties from catching anything from the new kitty. I have show kittens, and even getting them from a breeder at 8 weeks old, they are still quarinteed for 3 weeks, from the resident kittens. 01 08

thanks for the kind words Yes the vet spoke with us about FIP and length. we even took her to another vet to get a second opinion and she agreed that it was most likely FIP. The good news of this is we found new vet we love so that is good and they are open on Sundays which by me is quite rare! These were some good suggestions you gave us and we will try it out she seems to be doing pretty good but just meows a lot. I mean she is the most vocal cat I have ever had or even met so its not that strange but I would say its a little more then usual.

Being vocal varies from cat to cat. Macy is very quiet, but sonny can meow up a storm! you could also try cat toy you can hang like from a doorknob or in a doorway. I used to take a toy mouse, tie it on a string, then hang it in the doorway...Macy had a blast with it when he was a kitten.
Let us know if you need anymore help, hopefully more will join when Catster ends in March.

I am so sorry to hear about cinnamon. Our hear goes out to you. I know how mittens must be missing cinnamon because after Aregon passed, Casper and Spunky were depressed and down . It was a sever and long battle to get the furkids to eat, or show any interest.(I'm sorry, I know this is the cat side, but I thought it would be relevant)

aw im so sorry that your kitty's went through that!
So far it has not been so bad, still eating and all the normal healthy things she should be doing which I am glad. We didn't have cinnamon that long so I think the didn't quite bond like that but were more of playmates. But I do think she is confused and a little sad and she is bored. at first it was like she couldn't find her and would sit in her spots which was weird because she usually prefers to be wherever we are. now its better, but she seems bored always trying to get us to play which is fine but sometimes we just cant (IE 5o'clock in the morning). she yeah, I think I might try to doorknob thing and see if it helps, probably put it up when we leave. she just seem to be a kitten who love to wrestle so I don't know if it will be enough
