Hello! I'm new here and a cat mom of 4. 3 I rescued after the mother was shot. They were roughly a few days old. Now they will be 4 years old! I have an orange tabby from that group who is so fearful and skittish of everything. Even me. He was bottle fed, and loved like his siblings who are the farthest from skittish. Any clue why? What can I do? All inside only cats.

Have you noticed that he is more skiddish at certain times than others? Or certain sounds? Last year I fostered a mother cat and 4 kittens and three of the kittens were very sociable but the one little girl was very skiddish but I know she was abused by the neighbors kids before I took them in so she was very scared of humans. Could she have been near her mother when the shooting occurred? That could be the reason also. I am not sure what can be done to change it, my other guy I adopted from the shelter is skiddish and he is 10 years old. Hopefully someone else can assist you with a solution on that.

The mother was found roughly 20 ft away. She was a stray in my neighborhood. I've sourly raised the cats in a loving environment. He is less skittish in the early mornings and at night. During the day seems to be the worst. Only thing that in 4 years has never frightened him is my 6 year old lab sheppard mix. He is bonded to her. I just wish I knee what to do so he is less fearful.

I think that was because of bad treatments she got in the past. Does hand-fed her works?

My parents took in a pregnant stray over 10 years ago. She had 5 kittens. My parents kept them all. They have always been indoor only & have always been with their mother. One of them, Buddy, has always been skittish & hyper. He used to let people pet & brush him. He hides all the time now. We have no idea why he's always been skittish or why he's suddenly started hiding from everyone all the time. Buddy has always been strange like that, but he's gotten worse. His brother Howie is weird about letting people near him. Their sister Cali has never been friendly. The mother, Mimzy, is just as sweet as can be. Another one, Sparky, is a sweetheart. Blackie loves being petted & brushed. He can't get enough. They are so different. We think Howie was mistreated at the vet. As for Buddy, we don't know. Maybe something scared him as a kitten that we don't know about. Maybe that's what is wrong with yours or maybe Buddy & your cat are just simply that way on their own.
