*hooks a claw around the beads flying through the air*
Talking about "smarty commentators" reminds Mom: when she was little her uncle visited them in Chicago. They took him to visit the Museum of Science and Industry and a tour of the museum's coal mine. The tour group was very large so they had to go down in two groups, Mom's group being the first. Once down, their group had to move out of the way and up through the coal tunnel, so Uncle Bill started telling Mom all about mining coal (he was a miner when he was younger). So their group just kept following along, listening to Uncle Bill as he pointed out the coal cars and the digging equipment, etc. Everyone was listening to Uncle Bill and the tour guide was looking at him like "who the heck are you?"

My dad does praise Korean politicians, though, for having used American assistance to develop their country after the war instead of just using it to line their pockets, the way politicians in his original country, Vietnam, did.
Meow, well, time for me to go to bed! I've brought some mardi gras nightcaps.

Wow, those look delicious! Aragorn, that's funny! I'm going to take a couple to go, grab one of Lily's nightcaps and say good night. Mom is nodding off and needs to get to bed. We'll see y'all tomorrow!

Paczki are popular in the Polish neighborhoods in Chicago. In Poland, they eat them for "Fat Thursday."

Yeah, we're just checking them out on Wikipedia. Mom must have lived a sheltered life 'cause she never heard of them when she was in Chicago. Did your mom know about them when she lived in Michigan?

She did know about them in Michigan because there are a lot of Polish-Americans in Detroit, too (her hometown). Your mom must not have lived in a Polish area. Which neighborhood did she live in?

Czech neighborhood -- southwest side only a few blocks east of Cicero, IL.

Yep. Although the actual Pilsen Park was a few blocks east of their house.
