Do not think your mum has rice cooker?? How does she cook her rice? What type of rice is her favorite- basmatic, sushi, jasmine, brown etc... For the same reason, mum dares not buy any pet mince to avoid wasting food.

Mum is the other way round now. Gaby and Possum is not a lap cat. I tried to be a lap cat but I am too heavy for mum. Momo is a lap cat. Mum just tried to put Gaby on her lap but she only stayed for 20sec. She then walked away and sat next to mum. I guess you and Coco are lap cats, or you just sit next to your mum?

We're back! Coco got off Mom's lap but took over the computer chair so Mom had to move the laptop elsewhere, LOL.
Mom doesn't have a rice cooker. She just cooks it on the stovetop in a pan. She likes white and brown rice.

Coco is a lap cat and I was, too, even though I was a pretty big guy. I took up a little more space than Coco does!

Ah... When your mum cooks rice, does she add chicken broth or beef stock in it? I know spanish pan fry rice use chicken broth. Chinese just use water to cook the rice assuming the dish will add flavour while eating both the rice and dish together. Mum's flat mate used to cook vanilla rice pudding. Does your mum cook it? Or may be it is actually more practical when you buy the rice pudding from the shelf!

Mom usually just cooks it in water with a little seasoning. She's never done rice pudding and doesn't really care for it, so she's never even bought the ready-made kind.
Yes, the beef stew had, besides the beef, carrots and potatoes. No mushrooms. Mom added a little tomato juice to it while it was heating to give it some extra flavor. When Grandma used to make homemade beef stew, she added carrots, potatoes, and stewed tomatoes.

stewed tomato?? It is interesting. WHat is it? Or you just add fresh tomatoes in the stew while you cook? Oz people add canned tomatoes. Mum used fresh ones. WE have sundried tomato here mostly for Mediterranean dish. I guess you have sundried tomato in US?

Mum always feel canned tomatoes are more handy and they add better colour to the stew when compared to fresh tomatoes. Moreover, it has no skin in it, making the stew neat. Does your mum eat sundried tomato? May be she should try it in salad with olives.... Does she eat olive?

Mom would agree about the canned tomatoes. One of these days she wants to try to recreate Grandma's stew, when she has some time. She's had sundried tomato a few times, in salads I think. She likes it. She's not a big fan of olives, but she'll eat black olives sometimes. Yes, time for me to go. Mom needs to clean up the kitchen and get ready for church tomorrow. Have a good week and we'll see you next weekend!
