This dish is a main course but if you have any leftovers, it can be a side dish, too. The recipe came from the Sabana Grande Paso Fino horse club that Mom belonged to long ago.
Bean Bake 1-1/2 pounds ground beef 1 pound sliced bacon 1 can (1 lb. 12 oz.) pork & beans 2 cans (15 oz each) white navy beans 1 cup each: packed light brown sugar barbecue sauce 1 envelope dry onion soup mix
Cook bacon until crisp, crumble and set aside. Cook beef until brown, drain off fat. Combine beef, bacon and remaining ingredients. Pour in 2-1/2 quart casserole. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 1 hour. ******************************************** This serves a group of people. Since Mom made it only for two, she tweaked the recipe, using less ground beef, 6 slices of bacon, one can of pork & beans and one can of navy beans. She drained the navy beans and used less brown sugar, BBQ sauce and soup mix. www

This sounds really good. My dad loves baked beans, mom will have to make this for him.
