Hi, Aetheling, Lily, and S Team! Sorry to be late - Mom has been busy today. Lots of great music and food and drinks!
*Loads up a plate, including lots of fried guppies*
Mom has seen that old Sousa movie on TCM a couple of times. It doesn't show up very often. It is a good movie, and she loves concerts with the traditional patriotic music and Sousa-style marches.

Well, the TCM channel is bringing in so many "old" movies that have been retouched, and some of them aren't very good, so you'd think they would show the Sousa movie more often. Clifton Webb also starred in a Titanic movie back in the 50's that was good and mom hasn't seen that one for a long, long time.

Mom has seen that old Titanic movie, too, and yes, it's been a while. She likes it a lot better than the newer one with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.

Æetheling, we always thought that Monty created this place very similar to the Catster forums and don't understand why cats found it hard to get around here. Then, again, a lot of Catsters didn't prowl the forums and only stayed in their "Groups'" pages.

All the movies nowdays rely heavily on "special effects" and minimum on character development.

Shannara, you're right. It did take some adjustment when we moved over here after Catster, but we adapted quickly and figured things out, as did many others. It can be hard moving to a new site when you've gotten used to another one.
Sterling, that's very true. There seem to be lots of superhero and action movies, but few dramas and comedies with intelligent dialogue and interesting characters.

Although, mom heard that years ago (1940's), English movies were very boring. Mom's dad said when he was there and went to the movies, he fell asleep in the theater as did many of the other Americans who were there.

Tuna burgers, thank you! Sterling, that is so true about movies today. Also, movies today do a lot more loud background music than older movies. The experts say that’s why older people have trouble hearing the spoken words in the new movies. Because older people lose their ability to hear the higher frequencies (voices), so they can only hear the lower frequencies (music). Mom and dad watch everything with the captions on.

Aetheling, if you like "The House I Live In" (mom's favorite patriotic song), you might like to see the short film it comes from. This version is preserved in the Library of Congress.

That's funny! I didn't know that about those old English movies. Sounds like they were a good cure for insomnia, LOL.

Lily, thanks! I opened it on YouTube to watch later on. Our new puppy Vinny is being pretty laid-back about the fireworks. Couple of the weirder sounding ones made him do a lap around the room, but other than that, they don’t bother him. And they never bothered me or my angel pup Rosco either. We were the first pets either of our parents had that didn’t care about them

The only problem with captions is you don't have time to see the actors' faces. Years ago, mom was watching The Seven Samurai speaking Japanese with English captions and momsmom came in the room asking, "What the hell are you watching?!"

Hi, Aetheling!
Lily, thanks for sharing that. Mom likes Sinatra, so she'll check out the film later.
