So for awhile Pinecone has had some bloody mucus occasionally on him after he poops. I was worried, I talked to the vet at his appointment last spring (haven't made it in for yearly exams due to Corona) and she said it sounded like possible IBS. it definitely wasn't all the time, only occasionally and I tired to figure out if was related to what he was eating or some other common thread. I figured out it usually happens the next day after I give him wet food, as it's usually less solid and smells more so as well. so I have been avoiding giving him any and it's been working. We thought case closed. Well, tonight he had a bowel movement which he had a decent amount of blood afterwards that we had to clean off. I'm calling the vet in the morning as he appears very normal in behavior, but I'm starting to get worried. Any ideas?

What causes blood or mucus in my cat’s poop?
There can be many causes of blood or mucus in a cat’s poop. Some common reasons include:
•Dietary changes and food intolerance •Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) •Intestinal parasites such as Giardia •Infections •Trauma or abscess •Rectal polyps or tumors •Anal gland abscess or infection •Constipation or idiopathic feline megacolon •Poisons or toxins •Cancer
When trying to determine the cause of your cat's bloody stool, your vet will do a full examination first. Then, a stool sample should be taken to check for parasites and bacterial overgrowth. In addition, your vet may recommend lab tests to look for problems with the blood cells, organ function, and urinary tract. Abdominal radiographs (X-rays) may also be needed to look for foreign bodies, growths, or structural abnormalities. An ultrasound may also be recommended to get a better look at the abdomen.
